Spiderman Homecoming (2017)

When it comes to the Spiderman film franchise, third time’s the charm. Between Tom Holland’s portrayal of Spiderman and this films deviation from its predecessors usual Spiderman formula, Homecoming’s promise of delivering a new chapter in the life of Peter Parker has been fulfilled. As a teenager growing up with Superheroes from both Marvel and DC, seeing the first Spiderman film with Tobey Maguire had opened my eyes to these worlds. A few sequels and a reboot later, I had the same feelings I had when it came to Garfield’s performance but one thing was lacking in both franchises and that was the lack of youth, growth and adolescence in those portrayals. Sure, Maguire’s Spiderman opened the Spiderman universe even introducing some of the all-star villains such as Venom and Garfield’s Spiderman brought his teenage years to light but Holland’s Spiderman takes the cake. This film explores what it’s like being Spiderman, not the glamourized hero we often see portrayed in current media but the friendly neighborhood Spiderman helping with minor crimes and being the boy scout he should have been portrayed as. Being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe helped out in that regard especially with the introduction of Tony Stark as Peter’s “Uncle Ben” in this film and some cameos from the first avenger as well.

Wrapping
things up, Spiderman Homecoming is one of the must see films this season
not only being a superhero film but a story about growing up, doing the
right thing and being the man or woman you know you can be. A 10 out of
10 for me and personally somewhere in my top 10 superhero films
including the likes of Wonderwoman and the first Guardians of the Galaxy
Film.
Watch it for sure and get your money’s worth.
