Anyway, for a quick reference guide

[1] Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)

Featuring a returning ensemble of Chris Pratt (of Star-Lord infamy) and Bryce Dallas Howard (of running away from dinosaurs in heels infamy), Fallen Kingdom aims to bring its viewers back to Jurassic World the Park 3 years after the events of the first film.

Let me be frank about Fallen Kingdom. When I first saw the trailer a few months back I was literally laughing my butt off since they just made a raptor with longer arms*. After watching it though all I could say was that I was pleasantly surprised. There was comedy, there was suspense, there was even a little bit of action and drama. I was caught off guard with how good it actually was when comparing it to the trailer. If I watched the original Jurassic Park I probably would've had the same emotions all throughout.

Anyway the film gets an 8.5/10 for me. Definitely a fun little film for the whole family to enjoy, there are still some hiccups with the character inclusions and subplots involved. I won't spoil anything about subplots but having a token nerd getting a backbone over the course of the film instead of using the previous token nerd felt kind of like they were running out of ideas for new characters.

* Literally the first thing that popped into my head

[2] Ocean's 8

I never really watched any of the Ocean's films in my youth because for one, I wasn't actually old enough to watch any of them at the time and two, I wasn't really interested at the time but boy was I wrong. The Ocean's series of film revolves around a particular Ocean family member planning an amazing heist with the following film showing off its sar studded cast in their pursuit of the heist.

Let's be real, after the all female Ghostbusters "reboot", swapping out a cast for the other gender at times feels like it would just be about feminism or something like that. It wasn't clearly the case though as the film set a pace at the beginning of the film and stuck with it all throughout. The gender swap wasn't just a publicity stunt but a means to an end giving it a vehicle to which the whole plot would go around. You'd expect a bank robbery or a holdup with an all male cast but with this cast you get take down awards shows and the like and that's what they did. Featuring a remarkably star studded cast with some fascinating cameos to boot I'm all praise for Ocean's 8 and if you haven't watched it recently, now would be a great time to catch up with it.

Solid 9.5 without any hesitation about the score. Quick-witted, fast-paced and never skipping a beat, Ocean's 8 is the kind of film you'd expect to have some chill but nope, it just keeps going and going in a good way. The music was fine with the cast being put to good use. The only thing stopping this film from it giving me a 10 is that moment that would define it. Still a great watch though and definitely worth the time.

[3] Incredibles 2

I N C R E D I B L E

THat's all I can say about this film. Following directly after the cliffhanger of the first film with the Underminer, the Incredibles 2, Disney is once again proving why they are one of the cornerstones of Movie animation. Doing Marvel before they even went Marvel, the Incredibles set of films features the same old tropes you'd find in Superhero films these days with their own spin on things. The origin story, the conflict, the costumes, the charisma and most of all, the humanization of these super beings via their own family and internal struggles, it's all just so incredible.

Just a quick but notable thing as well, usually with how movies are presented these days through their trailers, viewers would be able to deduce the whole film but to be sincere, they were hiding one last trump card in the form of Jack-jack. The whole superhero family dynamic is definitely shown here in full force and whether seen as a kids movie or a way to let the kid in you come back, it's definitely a must watch for me.

Also when your only competition in media these days for superhero films are the 2 versions of Fantastic Four teams shown recently, it's not really that hard to get ahead. The first Fantastic Four series with Chris Evans was fun for me btw.

10 out of 10 for me. Superhero bias asides, it's surprising how these sequels from Disney just keep staying so consistent and relevant in this day and age. If you want some more Incredibles content after watching this film, I highly suggest the Jack-jack Attack short animation that took place in the events of the first film.

Also Bao was weird.

[4] Escape Plan 2

Following on the success of the first film we see Sylvester Stallone back with Batista in the drivers seat. Thats what I thought seeing the poster but I was gravely wrong. It barely showed these two with the spotlight being focused on some other actors who I didn't even bother to know at this point. Starting the movie, it felt so strange that I was questioning whether or not I entered the right cinema. A definite testosterone fest perfect for fathers day shenanigans, with the whole premise of it all, I'm still wondering if there even should've even been a sequel to begin with.

3/10 a definite money grab. It was just a mishmash of films stapled together with China being the major sponsor which makes sense. Come on there was even a Fast and the Furious like car chase. Want something fun to watch insted with your dad? Watch XXX, the Xander Cage series.

[5] Hotel Artemis

From one Batista film to another, here we are at Hotel Artemis. Concept wise it's one of those cool films that's a bit hard to materialize without the right viewer. Let me put it this way. With superheroes always getting injured, how do they get the medical attention they need without getting their secret identity revealed especially with most heroes being masked and all? Marvel Comics has an answer for this via Night Nurse, a nurse that caters directly to these injured heroes without really endangering their secret identities. Now instead of heroes think criminals. Criminals so intense and so outlandish at times that you'd think you were watching a heist film, to an assassination to something in between. Jodie Foster is wonderful as the nurse of the titular Hotel Artemis as well and her quirky mannerisms really do add up to the film as a whole.

Anyway let's talk about the film. It's about as post apocalyptic as you could get especially with Trump as president with one simple thing leading to so much turmoil. Criminals will be criminals with them taking the chaos of the world into their advantage but not every criminal wanted to be one or even help one to begin with. As aesthetically pleasing as it could get each scene could be a scene. The music was wonderful and well thought out. THe actors were suited for their roles with Charlie Day being cast wonderfully with shades of his role in Pacific Rim in full effect.

6/10 on Hotel Artemis for me. It's not really a bad film at all. It's a beautiful film but not every nice film is meant for everybody. Remember Bladerunner 2049 shown last year? I have the same sentiments right now about this film as I did when I finished with Bladerunner 2049. It looks like a great film in concept but again this film isn't really everybody's cup of tea.

[6] Tag

Ever wonder where Hawkeye was during the last Avengers film? He was apparently with his childhood friends playing Tag. All jokes aside though, Tag is a film chronicling the exploits of a group of childhood friends ass they try to Tag their friend. Here's where it gets peculiar though. The same game had been going on for over 30 years. These are grown men playing tag. It gets physical.

11/10 purely from entertainment value. If you want more details it's better to watch the trailer for yourselves. I haven't laughed so har for a while and if a film gets me laughing like that, the scores go out the window. It's kinda like hangover lite but with better morales thrown in. I'd definitely watch this again because my stress melted away a few minutes in.

That's June in a nutshell for me but what did you guys think about the films shown last month? I loved most of the films but then again it's hard to really hate movies to begin with.

Antman and the Wasp review coming up soon because July's coming tomorrow <3.
