Taft classics coming at you hard

Let me tell you a little bit about some of the happiest years of my life. I ain't talking about Grade School or even High School but I'm talking about the best years. That's right, college. Before I got to where I am in life, I took my engineering degree in De La Salle University (DLSU) located in Taft. Now Taft as we all know homes DLSU and CSB but one thing that I would always recommend to anybody visiting is to look around and explore the available food options there. The first Zark's branch could be found there as well as many others but I'll get to those some other time. Let's talk about one of the staples of the Taft diet.

Just frosh things
Before we go any further though, picture this. You're walking around Taft at lunch in your first day. You're on your first break wandering around Agno because that's where the cheap food is as mentioned by your friend or recommended to you during orientation and a particular phrase hits you with confusion. What's the phrase you might ask? Cheese Knorr. Yes I'm completely serious about this. Cheese Knorr. You repeat the phrase and get handed a bowl of a weird mix of bacon, eggs, cheese and rice and take the first bite. Lo and behold, the floodgates to one of Taft's best kept secrets and now a franchise, Ate Rica's Bacsilogan , has now been opened.

The first meal you'd probably have at Taft

Ate Rica's Bacsilogan houses you guessed it, Bacsilog. Not just any Bacsilog though but the kind of Bacsilog generations of kids from Taft had been eating since its inception in 2006 and true to what its website had said, is a taste that the Lasallian community holds close to its heart. There have been multiple branches opened over the years but with its newest branch, found in the Standard Chartered building along Ayala, so close to where I work (and near the RCBC building for our friends found there), I just had to eat there. Approaching the stall, the aroma of an old friend filled the air. Bacon sizzling on the grill and cheese knorr just around the corner, yup it's Ate Rica's alright. Taking my first bite brought back so many memories but not all is real behind the lense of rose colored glasses.

The legend itself now conveniently in Makati

Bacsilogan Price guide
Let's be real for a bit here though. Bacsilog isn't really the healthiest of options but if you had to make me eat something every day whether it be breakfast lunch or dinner, Bacsilog would probably be one of those meals. In terms of its price though, gone are the days when Bacsilog was at 50 pesos and now it's at 69 (nice). Still a bit pricey when eaten all the time but considering it's in Makati right now still affordable all the same. Something that pleasantly surprised me though was the presence of other Silogs by Ate Rica. Apparently I've just been eating BacSilog all this time (no ragrets).

One thing that caught me off guard is the presence of this number up here on the the side of its stall. If you work in the area is you could actually get the food delivered to you right in your office for a delivery fee of 30 pesos. You could also call in in advance to get the food prepped so you would just need to pick it up right there in their booth in the 2nd floor of standard chartered. It saved me some time and energy so why not do the same right?

Final verdict time
8/10 for its price
10/10 for its convenience
10/10 for flavor
48/10 as comfort food <3

If you happen to pass by Taft, or Espanya, or even work in Makati, give in to the hype and try it out. Bacsi is love. Bacsi is life.
