The Greatest Showman (2018)

The greatest showman is one of those films that you'd be hyped up to see as soon as you first lay eyes on its trailer. Think about it, every circus is always enjoyable on its outer most layer but coat it with inspiring music, a strong lead and a story that you wouldn't believe was actually true (give or take) and you'd end up with The Greatest Showman.

Before I get ahead of myself though let me break down some of the things I loved about this film:

- Definitely a spectacle from start to finish with bits and pieces of its amazing soundtrack every few minutes with themes so relevant and lyrics so strong that the you'll leave with a new earworm (A MILLION DREAMS IS ALL ITS GONNA TAKEEEEEEEEE)

- If you thought Hugh Jackman's Wolverine chops were something wait till you hear his singing chops. If Les Miserables weren't enough proof of this man's talents, then this film will make you a believer

Pictured here is Troy Bolton with the new Gabriella
 - The films pacing although quick at times due to all the time skips feels so in sync that it makes you feel like you're not just watching a film but an actual play with distinct acts intertwining to create the story that unfolds right in front of you

- Zac Efron goes back to his High School Musical roots being the cool jock with an off society love interest (oddly enough just like high school musical*)

- So many background details that losing focus even for a bit would make you miss some fantastic character work and some really minor details about the other circus performers.

- Shout-out to the film's MVP the bartender

- Sure society right now is definitely more accepting of oddities and indifference with people but one thing for certain is that this film true to its own words is "A Celebration of Humanity"

- One thing that I loved was how this film captured the American Dream where a little hard work (and sure maybe some quick wittedness) goes a long way

Can you name every trait each circus act has?
- The struggle of man losing sight of his ambitions on his blaze of glory and literally and figuratively rising from the ashes like a phoenix was a great touch in terms of story telling (going a little deeper though it's hard to believe sometimes that this is all based on a true story

- Definitely a feel good movie and watching it any number of times is always worth the money

Sure this film feels at times like it was tailor made to win awards the same way la la land is but looking past that, The Greatest Showman's strength lies in its ability to inspire its viewers and be inclusive of everybody regardless of how they identify as. Definitely a feel-good movie worth every bit of cash it takes to watch it because you're not paying for just a movie, you're paying for the spectacle of the circus, drama and all from its conception to its execution, masterly played out by Wolverine himself Hugh Jackman. Also, regardless of some ethical problems that would be called out so easily in this day and age, its worth mentioning that the time period this film takes place in was way more exclusive in comparison to our society's inclusivity.

Also the soundtrack alone is worth the watch because really, this is some world class talent singing some great songs here and that's reason enough to watch the film

10/10 Watch it ESPECIALLY if you're feeling down because this film will cheer you up so hard. Good films let you forget about your problems even for a bit. Great films inspire you and whatever critics would say, The Greatest Showman is a great film
